Alevin are growing up!

Our alevin are now growing up! The yolk sacks are much smaller than before. The fish are also swimming around easier than before. In this video you can see that the alevin can move from spot to spot. Before, it seemed like the yolk sacks kept the alevin from being able to float and swim.

Our Alevin

It looks like the fish are dancing to the music. They are called alevin. You can see the small yolk sack attached to them. We made the music more peaceful because the music in our last video is annoying.

This time they are no eggs left. One is dead in the picture. When you get to the second clip in the movie you can see the one dead alevin in the redd. It is not moving and is white.

The egg casings

All those white things are egg cases. They were floating in our tank.

Look at the picture. We drew arrows to show the egg cases and where they are. They are whitish-clear.

Fish eggs are hatched

The eggs were hatched over night. When we look in the tank we can't see any more eggs. We see the baby salmon that are called alevin.

This is a picture of the alevin. It looks like there is a ton of eggs, but it is not. The alevin have bellies that are a yolk. There bellies look like fish eggs because it is a yolk. The fish is a brownish color while the yolk is bright red.

The Fish Are Hatching!

Our fish eggs are hatching! We have only had them in the classroom for a week. We are supposed to keep the water temperature at 50 degrees or a bit lower.
